Disclosed is a lightweight silica-sand core suitable for producing two brake calipers, characterised in that it comprises two cylindrical areas, a first cylindrical area (1) and a second cylindrical area (2), aligned and separated from each other by a central area (3 and 4), wherein the first central area (3) is disposed on an upper face (A) and provided with first entrances (5) that define an area for supporting brake pads, while the second central area (4) is defined on a lower face (B) and provided with second entrances (6), such that the first entrances (5) and the second entrances (6) are close to the first cylindrical area (A) and the second cylindrical area (B), resulting in the first entrances (5) and the second entrances (6) being misaligned. Owing to the design of the lightweight core, two brake calipers can be produced using each core.
