An optical detector (110) for determining at least one property (220) of at least one substance (112), comprising at least one first optical sensor (114) comprising at least one first sensor layer (116) and at least one second optical sensor (120) comprising at least one second sensor layer (122), spaced apart from each other in a manner that a volume (132) between the first and second optical sensors is designated for receiving the at least one substance, at least two illumination sources (128, 128', 128") providing differently, periodically modulated first illumination light (118) for illuminating the first optical sensor, and at least one evaluation unit (136) for generating at least one item of information about at least one properly of the at least one substance; wherein the at least one first optical sensor is configured to transmit a share of the first illumination light into the volume; and related method
