The invention provides a method and a system (1) which operates according to said method in order to produce a barrier curtain (5) in front of the field of vision of a human head (4) which is exposed to specific harmful substances. The invention additionally relates to a system (1) which has a comparably low energy requirement while providing an air quality with a high degree of purity. The barrier curtain (5) has a characteristic profile (20), the airflow of which on the side facing away from the face of the human head (4) is designed to be stronger than on the barrier curtain (5) side facing the face. Fresh air is generated by a fresh air supply unit (8) and is supplied to a ventilation element (2) which is designed similarly to a headband. In the special fresh air unit (8), multiple filters, including so-called HEPA filters among others, can interact with the entire system (1) in an advantageous manner.
