The present invention relates to a smoking substitute device and particularly, although not exclusively, to a smoking substitute device comprising movable element for closing a consumable receiving opening. Accordingly, there is provided a substitute smoking device comprising a housing having an opening for receiving a substitute smoking consumable, wherein a heating element is arranged in the opening, wherein the substitute smoking system comprises a movable element arranged in the opening and displaceable between a first position and a second position, wherein, in the first position, the opening is substantially unrestricted for receiving a consumable, wherein, in the second position, the opening is substantially closed, and wherein the direction of displacement of the movable element between the first position and the second position is substantially parallel to a longitudinal extension of the housing.
