A piece of seating furniture (1), in particular a chair, according to the invention has a lower frame (2), a seat part (6), a backrest (8) separate from the seat part (6), and a bar-like, resilient upper frame (9). By means of the latter, the seat part (6) is articulated to the lower frame (2). The upper frame (9) also has two frame parts (10) which are assigned to one side each of the seat part (6). Each frame part (10) in turn has a first control section (14) and a second control section (16), which are each articulated in a rotary manner to the lower frame (2) at respective first joint points (18) and are articulated in a rotary manner to the seat part (6) at respective second joint points (20), in order to couple the seat part (6) to the lower frame (2). Each frame part (10) also has an intermediate section (22), by means of which the respective first and second control sections (14, 16) are connected and which is curved in a ring-like manner transversely to a joint axis direction of the first and second joint points (14, 16) and on one side of the seat part (6) and holds the backrest (8) without joints.
