An information determining method and apparatus, and a communication system. The method comprises: a terminal device determining the number of ports of a scheduled phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) according to the number of port groups of a scheduled demodulation reference signal (DMRS), wherein the number of scheduled PTRS ports is less than or equal to the number of scheduled DMRS port groups. In this way, the terminal device does not decode PTRSs with a number of ports greater than the number of scheduled DMRS port groups, and the number of decoded PTRSs can be consistent with scheduling of a network device, thereby avoiding loss of flexibility in the scheduling of a network device, and reducing or avoiding wastage of resources and energy consumption.
