The invention is directed to a gas coupling unit (2) with a cartridge (14) comprising a cylindrical body (30) to be mounted in a housing (4) of the coupling unit (2), said body forming an inner passage for the gas; an elongated shutter (34) slidable in the cylindrical body (30) and cooperating with a seat (30.1) on said body for closing the gas passage, said shutter (34) comprising a front end to be contacted by a front tubular portion (44.3) of a plug (44) cooperating with the coupling unit (2); wherein the elongate shutter (34) is tubular; and the body (30) comprises a front sleeve (30.2; 130.2; 230.2), said sleeve housing the front end of the shutter (34; 134; 234) and having a cylindrical outer surface.
