The invention describes a process for producing aluminum oxide out of aluminum hydrate in a calcination reaction at temperatures between 800 to 1200°C. Said reaction takes place in a reactor, which is heated directly and/or indirectly by a heat carrier.The heat carrier is heated by solar radiation in a high temperature receiver.
