To this end, the apparatus for organizing the group icon in the messenger service according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a message display module for displaying information according to an execution of a messenger program; a messenger processing module for displaying, through the message display module, a chat window list screen, on which one or more pre-created chat window lists are displayed, of the messenger program, and controlling the group icon such that the group icon requested by and transferred from a group icon creation module is displayed in an item for a group chat window when the item for the group chat window connected to at least two opponent terminals is present in the chat window list; and a group icon creation module for creating group icons by merging user icons for the opponent terminals participating in the group chat according to a predetermined criterion.
