The invention pertains to a method for protecting wood comprising coating wood with a coating composition, wherein the coating composition is an aqueous coating composition comprising at least one anionically stabilized latex polymer, at least one polyfunctional amine, and at least one volatile base, and having a pH in the range of from 9.5to 11, wherein the wood has a moisture content of at least 15 wt.%.The invention further pertains to the use of such coating composition in the protection of wood with a moisture content of at least 15 wt.%.
