A battery module 22 may include a housing 50, a plurality of battery cells 54 disposed in the housing 50, a battery terminal 24, 26 extending from the battery module 22 for coupling the battery module 22 with electrical components 161 in the vehicle 10, and a contactor 154. A voltage supplied to a relay coil in the contactor 154 may generate a magnetic field to actuate a contactor switch. The battery module 22 may also include a printed circuit board (PCB) 136 disposed in the housing 50. The PCB 136 may include a relay control circuit 186 configured to control a current flowing across the relay coil, and the relay control circuit 186 may operate in a pull-in mode to transition the contactor switch into a closed position and in a hold mode to maintain the contactor switch in the closed position.
