The invention relates to an electric motor having a commutator and a thermal overload fuse for generating a current interruption if a temperature threshold value is exceeded, the thermal overload fuse comprising a heat-deformable retaining element and, disposed thereon, an electrically conductive contact element. The contact element is formed as a component which is separate from the brushes and can be moved relative to a brush between an inoperative position and a short-circuit position.
