The invention relates to a component with a ceramic layer (12) which forms a surface (13), wherein nanoparticles (16) are introduced therein to reduce the wettability of the surface for hydrophilic liquids. According to the invention, it is proposed that these nanoparticles consist of aluminum oxide. In this way, a significant reduction of the wettability can be advantageously achieved with relatively minimal concentrations of nanoparticles (16). In addition, an advantageous germ-killing nanoparticle (18) is introduced in the layer and improves the self-cleaning capability of the surface (13).
