The invention relates to a method for controlling cooling of an auxiliary brake on a vehicle, wherein the auxiliary brake is cooled by a cooling member. The method comprises the steps of: determining if the vehicle is travelling down a slope or is to be driven down a slope, and activating the cooling member automatically for cooling the auxiliary brake provided that at least one predefined downhill slope condition is determined.
