A sealing door (130) reciprocates in a horizontal manner to close or open an opening. A downwardly-depending sealing gasket (153) is provided along the periphery of the opening, for sealing against the door when the door is pressed upwards against the gasket. For this purpose, wedges (177, 179) are provided to force the door upwards, in a direction essentially orthogonal to the horizontal, at the end of its closing lateral travel. A scraper is provided at one horizontal end of the opening to scrape material off the upper surface of the door to avoid interference with the sealing gaskets. The door may be water cooled.
