An agent such as a blowing agent comprised of a chemical blowing agent or a physical blowing agent, for example a gas, is added to wood, plastic material. A low-pressure C02 tank or an air compressor with a refrigerated air dryer is attached either at or after the vent zone of a standard twin-screw extruder to insert the gas. During or after extrusion, the gas is dissolved in the wood-plastic melt material. The material expands which foams the wood-plastic material reducing the density of the final product.
