Disclosed is a multilayer film having a layered structure wherein a layer containing a polyvalent metal compound is adjacent to either or both sides of a polymer layer containing a carboxyl group-containing polymer and a polyvalent metal salt of such a carboxyl group-containing polymer. The polymer layer has such a concentration-varying structure wherein the concentration of the polyvalent metal salt of the carboxyl group-containing polymer continuously decreases in the thickness direction starting from the surface adjacent to the layer containing the polyvalent metal compound. The peak ratio A1560/A1700 of the polymer layer which is determined according to the infrared absorption spectrum is not less than 0.25.
