A baggage screening system (10) and method includes providing a plurality of screening subsystems, each including an automated baggage screen device (14) and a feed conveyor (26) for feeding bags to the screen device. A supply conveyor (20) is provided for supplying bags to the screen subsystems. A sortation network (28) sorts bags downstream of the screen device as a function of the screening of the bags.
