Said device comprises a transfer table (1), the width of which corresponds at least to the width of a band that is to be conveyed and the surface of which is provided with a longitudinal slot (8) in the direction of conveyance of the band, said slot being narrower than the minimum width of a band that is be conveyed. The upper strand of a conveyor belt that revolves in the direction of conveyance of the band (7) can be pivoted in a preliminary manner across the surface of the transfer table and can be temporarily connected in a positive manner to the band that is to be conveyed by means of the longitudinal slot.
