It is intended to provide a safety refrigerator simple in construction, wherein in a refrigerating cycle using a flammable HC refrigerant, the control of an air-cooled fan installed in a machine chamber prevents accumulation of leakage refrigerant in the machine chamber even during stoppage of the compressor to eliminate the danger of ignition, the safety refrigerator being characterized by comprising a refrigerating cycle consisting of a compressor using a flammable refrigerant, a condenser, a throttling device and a cooler, and a machine chamber formed in the lower region of a heat insulation box main body and having installed therein the compressor, a refrigerating cycle line and an air-cooled fan for cooling them, it being arranged that the air-cooled fan is driven during the operation of the compressor and that after the stoppage of the compressor (S11), it is driven (S14) until the pressure balances between the higher and lower pressure sides of the refrigerating cycle (S14).
