An (asymmetric) complex catalyst comprising a Lewis acid and a metal complex represented by the formula (1): (wherein R , R , R , R , R , R , R , and R are the same or different and each represents hydrogen, halogeno, alkyl, etc.; one of R and R represents hydrogen and the other represents C1-4 alkyl, etc.; Q represents a single bond, C1-4 alkylene, etc.; M represents a metal ion; and A represents a counter ion or ligand for balancing); a process for producing an (optically active) alcohol derivative, characterized by reacting a cyclic ether compound with a phenol derivative in the presence of the complex catalyst; and a process for producing an (optically active) nitrogenous heterocyclic compound which comprises reacting the alcohol derivative with a halogenated nitrogenous heterocyclic compound in the presence of a base.
