A protective garment, preferably in the form of a glove, includes at least one layer of coagulated polyvinyl alcohol, a plasticizer and a pre-coagulant/stabilizer, and a second layer or layers of a disparate chemical composition, as well as one or more interlayers. The glove functions to protect the user from dangerous environments and is a seamless, elastic product which is resistant to common solvents, and acidic and basic solutions, as well as other skin irritants. The glove may be formed by sequentially dipping a form into baths of liquids containing the appropriate compositions.
