The invention relates to a method and device for accepting articles in the form of sheet-like material, especially securities, such as bank notes, cheques etc., wherein different groups of articles in the form of sheet-like material are consequently accepted and stored. According to a known method and a corresponding device for accepting groups of articles in the form of sheet-like material, for example bank notes, the original bank notes arising from a depositor are controlled and stored in a storage container in a consecutive manner. Afterwards, it is not always possible to know for certain which depositor the bank notes originated from, in case of malfunctions for example. The invention is characterised in that at least one means of separation is associated with each group of articles in the form of sheet-like material and that the mean(s) of separation are stored at least partially with the associated group of articles in the form of sheet-like material in order to separate the associated group of articles in the form of sheet-like material from other groups of said articles.
