To set an approximate position of the movable jaw (15) of a vice to the size of work, a movable block (4) connected to the jaw (15) by a threaded rod (7) is fixed to the base block (1) of the vice by a knock pin (29). The surface of the movable block (4) that faces the base block (1) has a semicylindrical groove (28) orthogonal to the direction of travel of the movable block (4), and the base block (1) has a plurality of semicylindrical grooves (21) opposed to the semicylindrical groove (28) of the movable block (4) and disposed at predetermined intervals. Turning the semicylindrical portion (31) of the knock pin (29) to the semicylindrical groove (28) on the side of the movable block (4) results in the movable block (4) being fixed to the base block (1).
