The invention relates to a cleaning device (1) for cleaning a flowing medium, in particular waste water, of impurities in the form of non-soluble particles (6). Said cleaning device has a retainer (4) for the medium that is located between an inflow flume (2) and an outflow flume (3). The cleaning device (8) located in the retainer (4) pushes the retained particles (6) into the discharging apparatus (10) which is located downstream from said retainer. An outer surface (14) of the retainer (4) has cross flow holes and forms a sieve part which provides a larger more effective sieve part compared to the inflow cross-sectional surface.
