The invention relates to a method and a briquetting press for briquetting metal chips. The aim of the invention is to produce stable briquets/pressed components. The length (Lreal) of the pressed component is obtained by means of at least one pressure ram (1, 2) during pressurisation (Pmax/Preq). Said length is measured by means of a measuring device (5, 6). The measured value is compared to a desired value (Ldesired). A difference value ( DELTA ) is subsequently determined.
