The invention relates to an electric motor, especially for a an electric tool, comprising driving means which can be connected to a power supply via switching means and a mechanically operating braking device for restraining the drive shaft when the electric motor is disconnected from the power supply and/or when the cut-out switch is activated. According to the invention, a rotor (armature 14) pertaining to the electric motor and used to provide torque is subjected to a mechanical braking force (F1) when the power supply voltage (48) is turned off.
