A display device having an improved configuration of contact area, which increases the production yield and reduces a product cost. A contact area (50) is disposed in such a manner as to contain a part, or the whole, of a pixel electrode edge portion as an area which is the area between a signal line (22) and a signal line (23) and extends along a scanning line (20), and connection between a pixel electrode (10) and a source electrode (40) is made in this area. A rectangular contact hole (52) is formed, but it may be replaced with a group of contact holes. A capacitance ratio RAcl is set so as to satisfy the relation RAcl=Cx/COMAX > VLCMAX/(VCLMIN - VCLMAX) where Cx is a parasitic capacitance, COMAX is a maximum value of a pixel capacitance, VCLMIN is a voltage at which a transmission factor becomes minimal and VCLMAX is a voltage at which the transmission factor becomes maximal. According to this construction, pixel defect at the time of inferior contact can be apparently eliminated.
