This invention is a valve apparatus (10) and method with an elastomeric disk (10d) fixedly disposed between the inlet (11) and outlet (12) members and being deformable to permit flow through the inlet (11) to the outlet (12). Deformation of the disk (10d) in the direction of pressure through the outlet (12) is limited. The elastomeric disk (10d) can be circular with a linear or nonlinear slit (S) and be clamped between the inlet and outlet members. The structure for limiting disk deformation can take the form of a pilot (12-3) integrated into, and extending across, the inlet member in centrally or non-centrally aperture form.
