The invention concerns a process for making an embossing punch. The process comprises the steps: (a) the values of an image are put into numeric form; (b) the punch is automatically and directly engraved. The numeric image is converted into a continuous surface and the level curves of said surface are plotted to provide the continuous engraving path. Applications in embossing fabrics for the manufacture of watermarked paper.
