A joint surface structure (1) for guiding and/or positioning constructional elements is inserted in the surface of corresponding bodies -herein referred to as constructional elements- or extensively forms their surface. It is assembled with complementary surfaces (2) of identical or different shape. In its locking position, the complementary surface (2) rests against the centrally symmetrical flattenings (7) of the edges of the convergent profile flanks (5), thereby ensuring a precise, reproducible, self-centering position at the centre (9) of a locking position. Transition to a guiding function is effected by raising the structure a minimal distance from the locking position and sliding it in any desired direction along a longitudinal guide axis (8), between the profile flanks (5), in order to reach another defined position locking or to take up an intermediate transversal supporting position with respect to the guide axis (8). Starting with one basic constructional unit (1, 2), the joint surface structure can be extended as desired by arranging the said units sequentially. The joint surface structure is used as a three-dimensional constructional element or is incorporated into the surface of constructional elements for tensioning, positioning or coupling purposes.
