Arrangement for adjustment of such pedestals (1) designed for furniture or the like which comprise a fixed elongated section (4) which is supported directly or indirectly by a sub-surface, and a movable extended section (5) which supports the furniture. The movable section is movable in two opposite directions relative to the fixed section between different adjustment positions, in which the two sections are lockable relative to each other by means of a controllable locking arrangement (8). This has an actuating device (21) for changing over the locking arrangement between the locking and release positions. The locking arrangement (8) comprises an initial and a second set of locking bodies (9, 10) and an initial and a second seating (11, 12) by means of which the first or second set of locking bodies are arranged to interact. The locking bodies try to adopt a locking position by clamping between the associated seating and a clamping surface (19) connected with the fixed section (4) and are changed over to the release position due to the displacement of at least one set of locking bodies (9, 10) from the associated seating (11, 12) by the actuating device (21).
