A device for transforming rotary motion into oscillatory motion has input means rotatable about an input axis and output means angularly movable about an output axis transverse, or perpendicular, to the input axis, and being connected with an oscillatory weft inserting needle of a ribbon loom. The input means include eccentric input joints, and the output means include eccentric output joints, which are connected with each other, preferably by a link, so that rotation of the input means causes oscillatory angular motion of the output means and of the weft inserting needle at a cyclically varying speed.
