A water heating system for controlling the heating of potable water in commercial or private dwellings with improved energy efficiency. The water heating system heats potable water in a tank by transferring excess heat generated in a refrigeration unit with a heat exchanger, and by extracting energy from insolation with a solar water heater unit.
