The present invention has for its object to provide an antifouling coating improved in such a manner that the coating film formed therefrom may retain a steady polishing rate over a long time period and be not ready to develop cracks and other defects, thus exhibiting an excellent long-term antifouling performance. An acrylic resin having at least one group represented by the following general formula (1), (wherein R1, R2 and R3 may be the same or different and each represents a hydrocarbon residue of 1 to 20 carbon atoms) in its side chain and additionally at least one group represented by the following general formula (2), (wherein X is a group represented by the formula, n is equal to 0 or 1; Y represents a hydrocarbon; M represents a divalent metal; and A represents a monobasic organic acid residue) in its side chain.
