A display for generating an image with a perceived depth of image pixels differing from the actual depth of the image pixels comprises an array of microlenses having a first pitch along a first direction; a plurality of arrays of light sources 102 underneath the array of microlenses, an array of light sources 102 having a second pitch along the first direction, the second pitch differing from the first pitch; means for addressing the plurality of arrays of light sources 102. Each array of light sources 102 corresponds to one perceived image pixel and each light source 102 in an array is present underneath a different microlens. The means for addressing the arrays of light sources 102 is adapted for addressing each light source 102 in one array of light sources in unison.
