Provided is an adhesive composition for forming an adhesive layer which is excellent in stress relaxation properties and durability, and has a sufficiently low haze value. Further, provided is an adhesive layer formed out of the adhesive composition. Still further, provided are an adhesive sheet containing the adhesive layer, and an optical member provided with the adhesive layer. Still further, provided is an image display device having at least one optical member provided with the adhesive layer. The adhesive component according to the present invention contains a (meth)acrylic polymer and a polyrotaxane that has a cyclic molecule, a linear molecule threaded through the opening of the cyclic molecule, and blocking groups arranged at both ends of the linear molecule to prevent dislocation of the cyclic molecule from the linear molecule. The (meth)acrylic polymer contains a structural unit derived from a monomer having no aromatic ring structure and also contains a structural unit derived from a monomer having an aromatic ring structure.
