The present invention provides a protection device which allows flowing a larger current as well as can provide a protection from an excessive current and/or an excessive voltage. The protection device of the present invention comprises: a PTC component 18 which comprises a laminar PTC element 12, a first electrically conductive metal layer 14 which is positioned on one main surface thereof, and a second electrically conductive metal layer 16 which is positioned on the other main surface thereof, an insulation layer 20 which is positioned on the second electrically conductive metal layer 16 of the PTC component 18, a thermal fuse member 22 which is positioned on the insulation layer 20, and a first lead 24 which is connected to one end of the thermal fuse member and a second lead 26 which is connected to the other end, wherein a part of the second lead 26 is electrically connected to the second electrically conductive metal layer 16.
