To reduce the size of a linear actuator motor without increasing the operation noise thereof, and to thereby achieve a quieter, more compact linear actuator. A linear actuator (1) comprises: a shaft (26) that is rotated in the forward and reverse directions by a motor (34) via a double start worm (36) and a worm wheel (41); a screw nut (29) that is screwed to the shaft (26); and a piston tube (10) that is fixed to the screw nut (29) and that advances or retreats in accordance with the rotation of the shaft (26). The motor (34) comprises: a 4-pole magnet (85); an armature (81) having a plurality of layers of an armature coil (91) wound thereon; a commutator (86); brushes (93a, 93b) that are disposed above and below at positions offset by approximately 90 DEG ; and an equalizing line (94) for connecting coils from among the armature coils (91) that require potential equalization.
