Disclosed is a liquid crystal aligning agent containing a radiation-sensitive polyorganosiloxane which is obtained by reacting at least one material selected from the group consisting of polyorganosiloxanes having a repeating unit represented by the formula (1) below, hydrolysis products thereof and hydrolysis-condensation products thereof with a cinnamic acid derivative having at least one group selected from the group consisting of a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, -SH, -NCO, -NHR (wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms), -CH=CH2 and -SO2Cl. (1) (In the formula (1), X1 represents a monovalent organic group having an epoxy group; and Y1 represents a hydroxyl group, an alkoxyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms, an alkyl group having 1-20 carbon atoms or an aryl group having 6-20 carbon atoms.)
