A method and system for accessing multiple link operating channels is provided. A method of providing a multi-link working channel connection in a multi-link network includes, by a multi-link station, a first backoff countdown and a second backoff count associated with a first link and a second link of the multilink network, respectively. Initiating a down, receiving a first frame on the first link, stopping the second backoff countdown, and setting the first frame to one of an inter-network frame, an uplink frame within a network, or a downlink frame within a network. Decoding the first frame to identify either, and in response to identifying the first frame as an inter-network frame or an uplink frame in the network, resuming a second backoff countdown.
