Vector instructions for performing the SNOW 3G wireless security operation is received and executed by the execution circuit of the processor. Execution circuit receives a first operand of a first instruction that specifies a first vector register for storing the current state of the FSM (finite state machine). Execution circuitry also receiving the second operand of the first instruction that specifies a second vector register for storing the data elements in the LFSR (linear feedback shift register) necessary to update the FSM. Execution circuitry executes a first instruction to produce an updated state of the FSM, and the output of the FSM in the destination operand of the first instruction.
