Handpiece assembly for laser treatment of the target surface comprises a cable connector coupled detachably to a power supply and a control module. Cable connector is configured to receive power and control signals from the power supply and control module. The handpiece assembly comprises a laser module configured to receive power and control signals from the cable connector based on the received power control signal and generating the electromagnetic energy. The laser module is a replaceable module coupled to the removable connector to the cable and the handpiece. A replaceable module may be a specific laser module is removed from the handpiece assembly replaced with another laser module. The handpiece assembly is receiving electromagnetic energy, and further comprising a handpiece configured to direct electromagnetic energy on the target surface from a laser module.
