The method for beam forming WiFi, feedback, and sounding (WiBEAM) is described. The beamforming feedback signaling and the sounding mechanism of the codebook-based for use in a wireless communication is disclosed. The methods described herein, Givens rotation-based degradation in the use and improve feedback efficiency by quantizing a result of the angle of the Givens rotation-based degradation using a range of from a subset of [0,2π]. The feedback also can be divided into a plurality of components so as to improve the efficiency of the feedback / precision. Codebook design that can be used in the preamble structure, the codebook-based beamforming feedback to enable the use of a smoothing method for improved channel estimation, and the multi-resolution explicit feedback is also disclosed.
