Biomass-derived ethylene glycol The method of producing 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural is provided using a solvent under the conditions of metal triflate catalyst. Preparation process of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural in the present invention is a linear or glycol-based compounds of the annular (ethylene glycol-based compound) for use as a solvent and the metal triflate catalyst (metal triflate catalyst) fructose from agarose and a step for producing a 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural. In this way, it is possible to reduce dependence on oil, and may correspond to the greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, it is possible to obtain the 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural in a high yield from fructose, it can be efficiently separated from the solvent and catalyst and reused after the reaction was completed.
