It relates to an electrode for use in a plasma arc torch. The electrode includes an insert 316 disposed in the cavity 318, and cavity on the front (front face) of the first end of the electrode body 302, an electrode body (302). The first end of the electrode body is formed of a high-purity copper containing at least 99.81% copper. Insert 316 has a first end and a second end, and is formed of a material emissivity. The diameter of the first end of the insert is shorter than the diameter of the second end of the insert. Electrode is compressed to maintain the insert by radial compression. The present invention also includes a method of forming an electrode, and an electrode method of operating a plasma torch.
