A surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member of the present invention contains (α) specific siloxane-modifier resin, and (β) specific compound and charge transfer material. (β) is one or more compound selected from the group composed of hexanol, heptanol, cyclohexanol, benzyl alcohol, tethylene glycol, 1,4- butanediol, 1,5- pentanediol, diethylene glycol, diethylene glycol ethyl methyl ether, the ethylene carbonate, the propylene carbonate, nitrobenzene, the pyrrolidone, the N-methylpyrolidone, methyl benzoate, ethylbenzoate, benzyl acetate, ethyl-3-ethoxypropionate, acetophenone, methyl salicylate, dimethylphthalate and sulfolane.
