Acicular mullite body, the green body is first converted to Topaz fluoro, then are prepared from the two-stage combustion process to switch to the needle-like mullite. This body is included in a closed area of the furnace. The flow of the processing gas is topaz fluoro- is provided through the enclosed area during the formation step. Process gas is introduced into an enclosed region through a plurality of openings on at least one side of a closed region, and is discharged through a plurality of openings on one or the other side of the closed region. Acicular mullite - during the formation step, the flow of purge gas is maintained at the outside of the furnace. The purge gas can be removed by flowing them out from the furnace to flow into the enclosed area, and then closed again without entering into the furnace outer side of the zone of the furnace.
