The proximity switch assembly includes a hermetic enclosure top and bottom enclosures which form the inner skin portion are combined. Shaft protrusion extends upwardly from the top surface of the enclosure, the internal bore having a closed volume is formed in the shaft protrusion forms a part of the inner skin portion. The first end of the vertical shaft is disposed in the internal bore so that the shaft rotates relative to the top and bottom enclosure. Samarium cobalt target magnet is coupled to the shaft, and the target magnet interacts with the samarium cobalt drive magnet in the proximity switch when rotated within the predetermined distance of the top of the target magnetic proximity switch. The interaction is such that the switch is moved to the second state or station from the first state.
