An antenna for an electronic device such as a portable computer is provided. Electronic device may have a housing that is equipped with an antenna therein. The housing may be formed of a conductive material. A dielectric antenna window may be mounted in the housing in order to allow to allow the radio frequency signals are transmitted from the antenna and the antenna is receiving radio frequency signals. By decreasing the transmit power when an external object is detected in the vicinity of the dielectric antenna window and the antenna, the short-range copy limit may be satisfied. The proximity sensor may be used to detect an external object. Parasitic antenna resonating element may be interposed between the antenna resonating element and the dielectric antenna window to minimize near-copy hotspot. Using a capacitor electrode for the proximity sensor may be formed of a parasitic antenna resonating element. A ferrite layer may be interposed between the parasitic element and the antenna window.
